April 1, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian opposition politician Pavie\u0142 Latu\u0161ka is in Strasbourg to discuss ways to bring Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka to account with diplomats and Council of Europe officials, the opposition cabinet reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician accuses the Belarusian ruler of crimes against the Belarusian and Ukrainian peoples and war crimes linked to the illegal transfer of Ukrainian children to Belarus for indoctrination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian politician met with Lithuanian Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovi\u010d to express gratitude to Vilnius for its key role in pressing charges against the Belarusian authoritarian leader in the International Criminal Court (ICC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month the ICC launched an inquiry against \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a statement on the ICC website, the Office has concluded that there is a \u201creasonable basis to believe that Rome Statute crimes were committed at least in part on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is a reasonable basis to believe that the coercive acts leading to deportation constituted a course of conduct against actual or perceived opponents of the Government of Belarus, pursuant to or in furtherance of a State policy,\u201d it said. The Office has concluded that the alleged crimes committed by the authorities were encouraged or approved by the highest levels of the Government.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, \u201cthere is a reasonable basis to believe that these crimes were committed as part of a widespread and systematic attack against the civilian population, considering their large scale, the number of victims, and the organised nature of the acts,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
