April 2, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The comprehensive drill that lasted from mid-January to mid-March involved inspections of 44 military units from all types of forces, Belarusian Security Council chief Alaksandar Valfovi\u010d told journalists in Minsk yesterday, following Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s meeting with top military officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler reportedly called for personnel decisions regarding those found unsuitable to lead, stressing that war does not forgive mistakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf it is clear to all that our small but capable Armed Forces can mobilize rapidly to effectively defend the sovereignty of Belarus and its people, then no one will dare come to our land with a hostile intent,\u201d Valfovi\u010d \u00a0said. \u201cAt the same time, we must be prepared for any scenario. In preparing for war, one must be confident that it will not come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus has about 70,000 active personnel, with the number rising to nearly 100,000 when counting internal troops and Committee for State Security (KGB) units, \u0141uka\u0161enka said yesterday. This number can further increase up to 500,000 in the event of war with additional conscription, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army is frequently conducting drills amid tensions with the West and Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
