{"id":182089,"date":"2026-04-02T17:13:42","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T14:13:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/182089\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T17:13:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T14:13:43","slug":"latvian-intelligence-estimates-belarus-army-strength-at-50000","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/182089\/","title":{"rendered":"Latvian intelligence estimates Belarus\u2019 army strength at 50,000"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>April 2, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Latvia\u2019s Intelligence and Security Service, in its annual report for 2025, estimated the Belarusian army\u2019s strength at about 50,000 men, including 20,000 conscripted soldiers and 30,000 contract soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka was quoted as saying yesterday that Belarus has a 70,000-strong army and could bring it to 500,000 through mobilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latvia\u2019s intelligence also noted that Belarus has a considerable number of armored vehicles and artillery systems, but the percentage of new and upgraded equipment is low. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report says that the Special Operations Forces are better equipped and were reinforced in 2025 by an additional anti-aircraft missile regiment and a rocket artillery regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Latvia\u2019s intelligence, Belarus has enough pilots, but it has an ageing air fleet and not enough aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report describes the Oreshnik intermediate-range missile deployment by Russia as \u201cpart of Moscow\u2019s strategic communication directed toward the West rather than a real contribution to Belarus\u2019 military capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLike the potential deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, such systems will undoubtedly remain under the Kremlin\u2019s complete control, and therefore their deployment in the country does not bolster the combat potential of the Belarusian Armed Forces.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 2, Pozirk.
