April 3,<\/strong> Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> <\/strong>Prominent photographer Andrej Lankievi\u010d was detained at the Polish-Belarusian border, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported on April 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security officers reportedly discovered an \u201cextremist subscription\u201d on his smartphone and his might be charged with a minor offense, according to unconfirmed information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is expected to stand trial under the Administrative Offenses Code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lankievi\u010d\u2019s career totals more than 80 solo and group exhibitions in Europe, Asia and the United States to date. His photographs are part of private collections in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Switzerland and Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October 2025, human rights organizations reported that more than 100 people had been arrested after returning to Belarus. The actual number of may be much higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For several years now, KGB officers have been permanently stationed at Belarusian border checkpoints, questioning Belarusians and foreigners arriving from Poland, Lithuania and Latvia and checking their mobile phones. Such interviews often end in arrests. In particular, those found to possess or share links to banned media and accounts are punished by fines or jail sentences of up to 15 days. Sometimes interviewees are arrested under the under the Administrative Offenses Code only to find out later that they are facing criminal charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cextremist\u201d content list contains thousands of entries, so it is actually hard for people to follow it and delete blacklisted content from their devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
