April 3, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>As many as 75 attempts by irregular migrants to cross the border from Belarus into neighboring EU countries were recorded on April 2, the largest daily number in the last 105 days, according to Pozirk’s<\/em> analysis of data from their border control agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, 44 such attempts were thwarted at the Latvian border and 31 at the Lithuanian border. No undocumented migrants were detected at the Polish border for sixth days in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More irregular attempts to cross into the EU, 86, were last recorded on December 18, 2025. Surges in irregular migration were recorded on March 31 and March 16, with 66 and 60 attempts at irregular crossing, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irregular activity at the Belarus-EU border surged after the unusually cold weather in January and February gave way to a spring thaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were 124 reported attempts by undocumented migrants to cross from Belarus into the neighboring EU countries on April 1 and 2, including 66 into Lithuania, 58 into Latvia and none into Poland. The total number was 339 in the same period of the previous year, with 262 irregular crossings prevented by Poland, 60 by Latvia and 17 by Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
