April 13, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>The slowdown in inflation in Belarus was primarily driven by decelerating food price growth, from 8.7 percent in February to 7.8 percent in March, the Eurasian Development Bank said in its recent report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The analysts noted more moderate price growth for seasonal fruits and vegetables, which posted a 3.5-percent growth year on year in March, down from 5.6 percent in February. However, inflation in the services sector accelerated to 6 percent, driven by the postponement of utility rate increases from January to March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continued inflation slowdown over the past four months, together with a drop in core inflation from 6.8 percent to 6.4 percent, points to an emerging sustained deflationary trend, the EDB said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysts maintained earlier forecasts that annual inflation will remain below 7 percent, in line with the government\u2019s target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consumer prices in Belarus rose by 0.6 percent in March, 1.6 percent since year\u2019s start and 5.4 percent year on year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
