April 19, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Mantas Danielius, a Lithuanian lawyer serving a nine-year prison sentence for allegedly spying for Belarus, sues President Gitanas Naus\u0117da, accusing him of refusing to negotiate his possible exchange for prisoners held by Belarus, lrt.lt<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Regional Administrative Court is expected to consider his complaint next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had appealed to the presidential office in the summer of 2025, demanding that Vilnius exchange him for Lithuanians held by Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want to go to Belarus, not to prison, but to be free,\u201d he said in a letter published in July last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus currently holds eight Lithuanians prisoners, according to Vilnius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danielius demands \u20ac100,000 in damages from the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2024, the Vilnius District Court sentenced Danielius to nine years in prison after finding him guilty of spying for Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He refused to testify and said in his closing statement that \u201cvoluntary gathering of information\u201d was not espionage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danielius admitted that he cooperated with Belarus 1<\/em> propagandist Ksienija Lebiedzieva, but said the investigators failed to prove her connections with a spy agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
