{"id":1846,"date":"2023-08-24T13:18:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-24T10:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=1846"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"illegal-belarus-eu-border-crossings-soar-to-279-in-24-hours","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/1846\/","title":{"rendered":"Illegal Belarus-EU border crossings soar to 279 in 24 hours"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 24,&nbsp;<em>BPN<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/strong>The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 279 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service recorded two illegal attempts to cross the border on August 23, while their Latvian colleagues thwarted 102 attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polish Border Guard said 175 foreigners, including nationals of Cameroon, Ethiopia and Yemen, tried to illegally enter from Belarus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded at least 27,948 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory from Belarus, with 19,987 attempts via Poland, 6,398 via Latvia and 1,563 via Lithuania. Illegal migrants attempted to cross the Belarusian-EU border as many as 3,674 times in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BPN&#8217;s analysis of daily stats indicated growing tension at the Belarusian-EU border, with Poland being the prime target. Illegal border crossing attempts rose from 1,989 in January and 1,970 in February to 3,701 in June and 5,054 in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated in November 2021, with thousands of migrants setting up a camp near the Polish border.
