April 24, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian universities are expected to cut tuition-based programs and expand programs funded by the government and free of tuition for students this year amid skilled labor shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The country\u2019s medical universities will enroll for tuition-free programs only for the first time this year because of severe shortages of health professionals. Those who graduate must work at jobs designated by authorities for at least five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In all, tuition-based programs are set to enroll 400 fewer students this year, said Siarhiej Pi\u0161\u010do\u016d, of the education ministry. Universities are expected to enroll 49,100 students (900 more than last year), including 33,100 for instruction free of tuition with the requirement to work for the state-designated employer for several years after graduation, and 16,000 for instruction financed by tuition fees, which frees students of compulsory job assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
