April 24, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarusian Committee for State Security (KGB) designated the Belarusian Council for Culture and In\u0161yJa association as \u201cextremist\u201d groups on April 9, says the updated official register, which now has 362 entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KGB listed 11 people as linked to the Council: Siarhiej Budkin, Elina Kalniba\u0142ockaja, Alena Rydzie\u016dskaja, Nadzieja Hareckaja, Cimafiej Akudovi\u010d, Ba\u017eena Lis, Alena Tur, Kaciaryna Raman\u010dyk, Alena Varaniec, Iryna \u0141uka\u0161enka and Volha M\u017eelskaja. The extresmist designation also covers the Council\u2019s individual projects, associated websites and social media pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four years ago, the interior ministry had already blacklisted a group of people linked to the Council\u2019s website byculture.org<\/em> and related social media communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KGB also named D\u017amitryj Radzije\u016dski and Maryna \u0160trachava as members of the In\u0161yja association \u2013 a Belarusian youth organization founded in March 2022 to promote an inclusive and tolerant society without discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus have equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
