April 24, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Aggression against sovereign and independent states is unacceptable, Siarhiej \u0141uka\u0161evi\u010d, Belarusian deputy foreign minister, has told the latest round of consultations on the international activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Moscow, the foreign ministry reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official was referring to the situation in the Middle East, noting that Belarus is \u201cmonitoring developments in the Persian Gulf with deep concern.\u201d He preferred not to mention Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine, which the Kremlin wages with the support of the Belarusian authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian diplomat has also called for joining forces to \u201cstop the region and the world from sliding into the abyss of a full-scale war with catastrophic, long-term and unpredictable consequences.\u201d He warned that the humanitarian consequences have already reached catastrophic proportions and called for the protection of civilians in line with the Geneva Conventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 3, Belarus and other SCO members expressed \u201cserious concern over the developments in the Middle East and the military strikes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Military actions in the Middle East intensified in late February amid stalled negotiations over Iran\u2019s nuclear program, as Washington pressed Tehran to curb its nuclear activities and address concerns over its enrichment and uranium stockpile, while Iranian officials maintained they would not accept US demands without significant concessions on sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran\u2019s longtime ruler Ali Khamenei was killed at his residence during the United States and Israeli strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
