May 5, Pozirk. <\/strong>Andrej S., an employee at Hrodna Azot nitrogen fertilizer producer, died by suicide after alleged pressure from management, according to the Rabo\u010dy Ruch initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deceased was the deputy head of a caustic soda recovery shop, where repairs had recently been carried out on waste incineration furnaces. Sources indicate that Russian-made bricks were used during the repairs, replacing previously procured imported materials. The furnace linings reportedly failed due to the lower quality of the replacement bricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zerkalo.io<\/em> reported that the man had received a verbal order to increase the combustion temperature, which resulted in the destruction of the bricks in the furnace lining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a management meeting, \u201charsh accusations, threats, and attempts to find a scapegoat were made,\u201d according to Rabo\u010dy Ruch. The CEO allegedly tried to pin the losses of 1.2 million rubels (about $424,000) on Andrej S., threatening him with prison. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The management is seeking to cover up the incident, but \u201cthe whole plant knows what happened,\u201d a source who wished to remain anonymous told zerkalo.io<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hrodna Azot is under the European Union\u2019s sanctions over human rights violations by its management during the 2020 political crisis in Belarus and financing Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the European Court of Justice dismissed an appeal by the Hrodna Azot, leaving the EU sanctions in force. The EU sent a \u201cclear and unambiguous signal\u201d that financing reprisals will have consequences, opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka said in response to the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
