May 5, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Territorial troops have started a scheduled training exercise in Hrodna region\u2019s Lida district, the defense ministry\u2019s press office reports. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exercise focuses on the mobilization of conscripts through a local deployment base and execution of territorial defense tasks in cooperation with people\u2019s militia volunteers, it noted. The drill also includes training for officers in charge of territorial troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conscripts are also expected to train in protecting personnel and critical infrastructure from drones using active and passive countermeasures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Territorial troops, an auxiliary part of the Armed Forces, are formed in times of war or military-political tension of reservists with military training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three years ago, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin announced that territorial defense \u201cis being transformed from a support system into a full-fledged combat one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army is regularly conducting drills amid tensions with the West and Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
