May 6, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Law enforcers are searching the homes of people in Belarus, whose exiled family members are running in the Coordination Council online election scheduled for May 11\u201317, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights defenders know of at least 10 separate incidents linked to charges of high treason, setting up an extremist group and calling for sanctions. People reportedly faced harassment and pressure as Belarusian officials sought to force the candidates to leave their factions ahead of the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, the Belarusian Committee for State Security (KGB) designated as \u201cextremist organizations\u201d six political groups on the ballot in the Coordination Council election. The register of extremist groups on the interior ministry\u2019s website now features Va\u0161 Ho\u0142as (Your Voice), Nastup (Attack), Khvatit boyatsia! (Stop Being Afraid), the United Civic Platform, Vola (Freedom) and Bie\u0142arusy Dzieja\u0144nia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier today, activist Pavie\u0142 Libier noted that Belarusian authorities are investing heavily in efforts to disrupt the Coordination Council election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
