{"id":186632,"date":"2026-05-07T13:35:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T10:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/186632\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T13:35:25","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T10:35:25","slug":"belarus-security-chief-makes-false-claim-that-most-european-states-fought-alongside-hitler","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/186632\/","title":{"rendered":"Belarus\u2019 security chief makes false claim that most European states fought alongside Hitler"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>May 7, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Most European states were out to conquer living space in the East, pillage and murder together with Adolf Hitler, claimed Alaksandr Valfovi\u010d, state secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, speaking at a ceremony in Minsk on May 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Valfovi\u010d made this false claim during a meeting held to mark the end of World War II, celebrated as Victory Day in Belarus on May 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Valfovi\u010d accused the West of \u201cfalsifications and manipulations\u201d to distort the history of World War II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, only six of the more than 30 European countries formally joined Germany\u2019s war against the Soviet Union or contributed their national armies, namely, Romania, Italy, Finland, Hungary, Slovakia and Croatia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Yugoslavia, France and the Czech Republic were occupied before 1941.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and Ireland were formally independent and uninvolved in the military conflict, although Spain is known to have sent a volunteer unit to fight alongside German troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The anti-Hitler coalition in Europe included the United Kingdom, France, Poland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Later, closer to the end of the war, Italy, Romania and Bulgaria joined it. In 1944, Finland also turned against Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarus supports Russia in the full-scale war against Ukraine, which Moscow launched in February 2022. Since then, Belarus adopted legislation to treat deviations from the government\u2019s narrative of war history as \u201cthe denial of the genocide against the Belarusian people\u201d and punish them with up to five years in prison.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May 7, Pozirk.
