May<\/strong> 11, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/strong> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja expressed her gratitude to Sweden for its support of Belarusians\u2019 democratic aspirations, speaking at the Youth, Gender and Democracy for Belarus Forum in Stockholm on May 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen so many countries were reducing support, and when U.S. assistance programs were largely cut, Sweden only has increased it. Through SIDA, the Swedish Institute, through political foundations, this support continued to reach Belarusian journalists, students, activists, youth and cultural initiatives,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician pinned her hope on youth to drive change in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBelarusian youth continue to resist \u2014 both inside the country and in exile. They pay a high price: imprisonment, exile, repression. But nothing will stop them. They grow like flowers through asphalt. New people are coming. A new generation is rising \u2014 even more courageous, creative, and European.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
