May 11, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 military spending is based on the principle of \u201creasonable sufficiency,\u201d with state-of-the-art weapons accounting for about 45 percent of its arsenal, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin said on May 11 following a government conference chaired by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event focused on the government\u2019s armament and defense industry procurement programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the defense ministry’s press office, Chrenin said that while Belarus “should be aiming for 100 percent” of its weaponry to be state-of-the-art, the current share is “reasonably sufficient” and warned against making the economy dependent on the defense industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chrenin argued that in the modern world, a country does not have to possess extensive resources to be able to cause serious “economic, political and military” damage to its enemies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus is a land of forests and bogs, and “we should know how to defend it,” Chrenin said, stressing the role of small arms, targeting devices, anti-drone systems and personnel training for its defense capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Chrenin, Belarus will prioritize electronic warfare, surveillance, communication, counter-battery and counter-drone warfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
