May 14, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has announced that he wants Belarus and Sri Lanka to develop a roadmap for economic cooperation during talks in Minsk with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijita Herath, the Belarusian ruler\u2019s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe would be pleased to establish and strengthen relations with you,” it quoted the politician as saying. “The economy is the foundation of any relationship, which is why we want to build strong and positive ties with Sri Lanka.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka proposed drafting a bilateral cooperation plan, adding that \u201ceverything Belarus is rich in\u201d is \u201cat the disposal\u201d of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Herath is visiting Belarus from May 12 to 15 at the invitation of his Belarusian counterpart Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations in November 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, bilateral trade stood at nearly $40 million, consisting mostly of Belarusian exports, primarily potash fertilizers, according to the data posted on the website of the Belarusian embassy in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities have not disclosed more recent data on bilateral trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
