May 15, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Lithuania is not under pressure from the United States over the resumption of the Belarusian fertilizer transit, BNS<\/em> reports, citing Lithuanian President Gitanas Naus\u0117da.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regime in Minsk has a chance to demonstrate willingness to improve relations with Vilnius and turn away from Russia, the politician said. \u201cAlthough this possibility is very unlikely, I would not completely rule it out, and we are always ready to work closely with our American partners in resolving these issues,\u201d Naus\u0117da noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, Lithuanian Foreign Minister K\u0119stutis Budrys reportedly told a closed-door meeting of the Social Democratic faction that the United States was pressuring Lithuania to resume the transit of Belarusian fertilizers through its territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US lifted sanctions on Bie\u0142investbank, the Development Bank of Belarus, the finance ministry, Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij and Belarusian Potash Company after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka freed 250 jailed dissidents following the talks with John Coale, US special envoy for Belarus, on March 19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania banned the transit of Belarusian fertilizers in early 2022 in line with US sanctions, while the EU adopted similar restrictions later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
