May 18, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus\u2019 gross domestic product resumed modest growth in the first four months of 2026 with 0.2 percent versus a 2.8-percent rise a year earlier, the National Statistical Committee (Bie\u0142stat) reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GDP dropped by 1.2 percent in January and January-February, with the contraction slowing down to 0.4 percent in the first quarter of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the economy grew by\u00a01.3 percent, falling short of the government\u2019s targeted 4.1-percent expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, officials expect the economy to grow by 2.8 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Monetary Fund forecast Belarus\u2019 economic growth at 1.4 percent in 2026, while the Eurasian Development Bank projected 1.8-percent economic growth. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development lowered its 2026 growth forecast for Belarus to 1.3 percent in its recent review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
