May 20, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Ukraine will reinforce the Chernihiv-Kyiv area in the north of the country amid threats from Belarus, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has told Ukraine’s top military officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur forces in that sector will be increased,\u201d Zelensky\u2019s press service quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ukrainian leader also instructed the foreign ministry to \u201cprepare additional measures to exert diplomatic influence on Belarus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky called for strengthening the state so that none of the five Russian scenarios for expanding the war through northern Ukraine would succeed, without specifying what those scenarios were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Russian offensive from Belarusian territory is possible, and Ukraine knows that the General Staff of Russia\u2019s Armed Forces is actively weighing its options and planning offensive operations from there, Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
