May 20, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The incident involving a Belarusian national who sustained gunshot wounds in Poland on May 12 \u201craises serious doubts about the actual level of security claimed by the Polish side,\u201d the Belarusian foreign ministry has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement follows reports of hospitalization of a 60-year-old Belarusian man in the Hrodna region. The man is in a serious condition after reportedly sustaining injuries to the head and lower limbs in Poland. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the incident, said police official Maksim Rudy, without providing further details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polish side has not commented on the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian foreign ministry said Polish law enforcement officers mistakenly identified a group of Belarusians as members of a criminal gang, leading to the use of firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diplomats advised Belarusian citizens to take such risks into account when travelling abroad, saying it cannot be ruled out that a law-abiding person could be mistaken for a suspect and face disproportionate force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry also welcomed the Polish Prosecutor\u2019s Office\u2019s decision to open an investigation and treat the incident as possible abuse of power, noting that it expects a thorough probe, accountability and prosecution of those responsible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
