May 29, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus is promoting peace, sustainable development and renewed international dialogue on security and confidence-building measures through specific actions rather than rhetoric, Belarusian diplomat Alaksiej Panfiora\u016d told the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official complained of a lack of multilateralism in international relations as he addressed the open debate on purposes and principles of the UN Charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cArmed conflicts, political struggles between the world\u2019s most powerful states, information wars and the blatant \u2018harassment\u2019 of undesirable countries are clear proof of this,\u201d the Belarusian foreign ministry quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus opposes what it describes as a policy of force and domination, the diplomat said. \u201cWe do not accept attempts to unilaterally rewrite international rules in the interests of a few states. This is a direct threat to the multilateral system, which the UN is obligated to defend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKey international agreements designed to preserve global peace and security are being weakened, while disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation efforts are increasingly under threat,\u201d Panfiora\u016d noted. \u201cAll of this is bringing the world closer to a point where the threat of nuclear conflict is becoming increasingly real,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, Belarus and Russia launched a joint nuclear drill in Belarus. The joint training \u2013 which featured simulated nuclear strikes \u2013 was similar to NATO\u2019s \u201cjoint nuclear missions\u201d and was \u201cof absolutely defensive nature,\u201d Belarus\u2019 Deputy Foreign Minister Ihar Siakreta told foreign diplomats in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The May 18-19 rehearsal of the delivery of nuclear munitions and preparations for their use drew immediate backlash from Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
