May 29, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>As of January 1, 1,716,303 children lived in Belarus, with the number down 2.7 percent year on year and 28 percent in the 26 years from 2000, according to Pozirk<\/em>\u2019s analysis of the National Statistical Committee\u2019s (Bei\u0142stat) data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the official data do not account for the mass migration of families with children triggered by the 2020 political crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of early 2026, the majority of children, 81.4 percent, lived in cities, and 18.6 percent, in rural areas. On average across the country, there were 951 girls for every 1,000 boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 demographic crisis is expected to end by 2030, Valeryj Kavalko\u016d, deputy social security minister, said earlier. People born in the early 2000s, when birth rates were rising, will start their own families soon and give birth to more children,\u00a0the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
