June 2, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d has met Qu Dongyu, director general of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), to discuss sanctions on Belarusian potash fertilizers amid efforts to ensure food security, the foreign ministry\u2019s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian diplomat also stressed the importance of cooperation with the FAO, noting the agency\u2019s expert support in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and environmental protection. The official also expressed hope for the swift completion of the country cooperation program for 2026\u20132030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka told the FAO chief that isolating Belarus from the international fertilizer market is counterproductive, arguing that any sanctions on its potash industry lead to a \u201cglobal deficit\u201d of fertilizers and food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Washington lifted sanctions on Belarus\u2019 potash giant Belaruskali (Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij) and Belarusian Potash Company after the Belarusian ruler freed 250 political prisoners. However, the European Union and Lithuania maintain a ban on the transit of Belarusian fertilizers, imposed in early 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
