June 5, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>More Belarusians should study in Europe and experience a European lifestyle to bring this spirit back to Belarus one day, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja, said in a speech at University College London on June 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One day Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s dictatorship will collapse, and Belarus will be in need of people who can rebuild it and restore it to the European family, where it belongs, she was quoted as saying by her press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja reiterated her call for supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia. \u201cWe are fighting against one and the same evil and for one and the same future,\u201d she said. \u201cThe fates of our countries are interwoven. Without free Ukraine there will be no free Belarus. Without free Belarus there will be no safe Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recalling her recent visit to Ukraine, Cichano\u016dskaja said that every politician should make a trip to this war-torn country to put to rest any lingering doubts about the need to support Ukraine needs and toughen sanctions against Russia and Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia backs \u0141uka\u0161enka because it will need Belarusian territory and a puppet like him if it decides to broaden its aggressive war, Cichano\u016dskaja said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She stressed that Western politicians should make a distinction between the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime and the Belarusian people. Unlike Russia, Belarus has never had imperial ambitions and always belonged to the European cultural space, she stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja described sanctions as a tool that weakens dictators and sets people free and called for supporting Belarusians living abroad, in particular the independent media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja also played up the efforts of pro-democracy forces to ensure accountability for the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
