June 8, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Kamvol, the Minsk-based wool textile company, employs 71 foreign workers, including 10 from Ethiopia and 61 from Turkmenistan, its CEO Ta\u0107ciana \u0141uhina said in an interview broadcast by STV<\/em> on June 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She noted that the company has been seeking to hire foreign workers for the past five years because Belarusians are reluctant to take jobs as equipment operators and yarn spinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uhina said her attempt to hire Indian workers failed because Kamvol operates on eight-hour shifts, while most Indians in the same profession work 12-hour shifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYour workers are too slow. I don\u2019t want my workers to slow down,\u201d she quoted an Indian partner as saying in response to her request to send workers to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uhina expressed concern about low labor intensity and high labor costs in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said that Belarusian employees do not always work for the full eight hours at the required level of concentration and pace, whereas Ethiopians perform their jobs well \u201cfor an acceptable level of pay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kamvol has struggled financially in recent years, with Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka highlighting its 200-million-ruble debt on October 3. He appointed \u0141uhina as CEO on October 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
