June 12,<\/strong> Pozirk<\/strong>.<\/em> New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on June 10 and 11 as rights defenders reported intensified raids targeting students, alumni and their family members in the case against Vilnius-based European Humanities University (EHU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Committee for State Security (KGB) agents have been harassing alumni who graduated between 2019 and 2025, demanding that they produce their degree certificates, the Viasna Human Rights Center said. Searches and interrogations also target current students and other people with alleged links to the university, branded an \u201cextremist\u201d organization in Belarus earlier this year. The criminal investigation reportedly focuses on EHU tuition payments starting from 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate development, a judge in Minsk sentenced a Belarusian family to lengthy prison terms on charges of high treason and arms smuggling, Salidarna\u015b\u0107<\/em> reported. Pie\u0142ahieja Korsaka\u016d, who is based in Ukraine, was tried in her absence and given 11 years in prison, while her Belarus-based parents D\u017amitryj and Ta\u0107ciana, received prison terms of 14 and 12 years, respectively. Authorities did not release any other details, but the case may be politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information ministry announced extremist content designations for several Facebook pages, including Belarus in Focus Information Office<\/em>, Alternaty\u016dnaja Mo\u0142adzievaja Platforma<\/em> and Valery Kavaleuski,<\/em> as well as daroha.b\u0443<\/em> on Threads and Telegram sticker pack 3%<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Investigative Committee said it would step up the monitoring of content on Threads and TikTok, citing a spike in what it described as \u201cdestructive information,\u201d efforts to \u201cmislead the public\u201d and posts that \u201cincite social hatred.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of June 12, human rights defenders identified at least 868 political prisoners, but the real number is considerably higher because of many undocumented cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
