June 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Current authorities in Belarus are closely allied with Russia which pursues aggressive policies posing a threat to Lithuania\u2019s national security, Lithuanian Foreign Minister K\u0119stutis Budrys has told representatives of the Belarusian expat community in Vilnius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this reason, the European Union must continue its policy of non-recognition of the regime, its isolation and sanctions pressure, while at the same time strengthening support for Belarusian pro-democracy forces and the people of Belarus, the Lithuanian foreign ministry\u2019s press office cited him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania and Belarusians seeking changes in their country share a common goal of a democratic and free Belarus, Budrys stressed. The diplomat reportedly reaffirmed Lithuania\u2019s firm support for Belarusians, describing Vilnius as a safe space for their exiled communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Budrys said Lithuania would continue dialogue and cooperation to strengthen Belarusian civil society, support education initiatives and improve resilience to disinformation and other shared threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian pro-democracy activists, members of civil society, diaspora, independent media, educational initiatives, business and religious communities attended today\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
