June 12, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The House of Representatives of Belarus\u2019 National Assembly on June 12 approved the ratification bill for an agreement between Belarus and Togo on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic and service passports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bill will have to be ratified by the Council of the Republic and signed by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka before it takes effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement was signed by Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d during his stay in Togo\u2019s capital city of Lom\u00e9 on March 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eanko\u016d and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Togolese Abroad Robert Dussey also signed a memorandum on political consultations between their ministries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 3, Ry\u017eanko\u016d, accompanied by Belarusian agriculture and industry officials, met with Togo\u2019s Agriculture Minister Antoine Lekpa Gbegbeni, with the latter reportedly expressing interest in equipment deliveries, assistance with irrigation and the creation of state-of-the-art warehouse infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the first day of his visit, Ry\u017eanko\u016d met with Prime Minister Faure Gnassingb\u00e9 to hand an invitation from Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka to visit Belarus. The invitation was accepted, and the date of the visit was expected to be set via diplomatic channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus and Togo do not have diplomatic missions on each other\u2019s territory. Via\u010das\u0142a\u016d Biaskosty, Belarus\u2019 ambassador to Nigeria from 2013 to 2018, represented the country in Togo. After his departure, Minsk has had no diplomat responsible for ties with the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Togo is a tropical West African nation situated along the Gulf of Guinea, bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east, and Burkina Faso to the north. With a population of approximately nine million people, it is classified as a low-income developing country where economic prosperity remains constrained, despite significant growth driven by its major deep water port and phosphate mining sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
