June 17, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 neighbors reported 1,300 attempts by third-country nationals to cross into the European Union outside official checkpoints in the first half of June, found Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> analysis of data from border guards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia has been the main target with 1,286 attempts (98.9 percent), followed by Poland with 9 and Lithuania with 5. Poland has not recorded any incidents for 13 days since June 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, migration intensity has decreased since June 2025, when 3,745 attempts were recorded in the first half of June with Poland being the main target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2026 to June 15, Belarus\u2019 western neighbors have thwarted 6.747 irregular crossings compared with 19,014 attempts in the same period of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
