June 24, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>European Union neighbors did not allow 101 undocumented third-country foreigners to enter their territory from Belarus on June 23, the eighth time that more than 100 attempted crossings have been reported this month, according to Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvian and Lithuanian border guards reportedly thwarted 96 and five attempts at irregular border crossing, respectively. For the second day in a row, Poland recorded no such incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irregular activity at the EU border with Belarus spiked on June 13 with 206 attempted crossings, including 205 into Latvia and one into Lithuania; on June 3 with 171 attempted crossings, all into Latvia; and June 12 with 155 attempted crossings, all also into Latvia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2026, Belarus\u2019 western neighbors have thwarted at least 7,287 irregular crossings, including 832 attempts directed at Lithuania, or 11.4 percent of the total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia remained the main target, accounting for 6,226 attempts, while Poland reported just 229, a significant decline from the same period last year, when it recorded 13,775 attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
