June 25, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Thursday that preparations for the \u201cpotential expansion of the aggression against Ukraine\u201d were taking place in Belarus and demanded an end to the development of the \u201caggressive border infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In Belarus, along our state border, the construction of an infrastructure of roads and storage facilities for ammunition, fuel and lubricants is nearing completion,\u201d he wrote on his official Telegram channel. \u201cTheir only possible purpose is military.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky said that these roads and warehouses are situated in areas between Kobryn and Kovel, Ivanava and Manievichy, \u0141uniniec and Sarny, Re\u010dyca and Karascie\u0144 and Homiel and Chernihiv on the Belarusian and the Ukrainian side of the border, respectively. According to him, \u201cRussian documents\u201d make it clear that Russia views the construction project as part of its war effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus has received the necessary signals about such activities\u201d from Ukraine, as well as about the other forms of its \u201ccooperation with Russia aimed at prolonging and expanding the war,\u201d Zelensky said. “Belarus knows what steps on its part are necessary for peace,\u201d he added. \u201cThe development of the aggression-oriented border infrastructure by Belarus must be stopped. It is the Belarusian side that must take steps toward de-escalation and peace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky\u2019s new demands come six days after he told Belarusian authorities to dismantle four drone control relay systems allegedly used to facilitate Russian attacks on Ukraine. \u201cIf he [\u0141uka\u0161enka] does not shut them down, we will shut down everything within a week,\u201d the Ukrainian president said. On June 24, he announced that the relay systems had suspended operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The possibility of Belarus\u2019 full-scale involvement in Russia\u2019s war has been the subject of many Western media reports as of late. On Thursday, the Kremlin\u2019s spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed a claim by The Wall Street Journal<\/em> that the Kremlin is putting pressure on \u0141uka\u0161enka to allow Russia to more actively use Belarus in its war effort against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peskov brushed the allegation aside as \u201ccompletely false.\u201d “We have a Union State; we have a whole range of joint projects on the agenda. We have the most advanced form of integration with Belarus, which is ongoing, and Belarus is our closest ally,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
