June 25, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 interior ministry has designated the US-based Association of Belarusians in America (ABA) as an \u201cextremist group.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ministry, 17 individuals linked to the organization have been identified, namely, Maryja and Ta\u0107ciana Astapienka, Anton Bialanski, Emilija Barko\u016dskaja-Sciepan\u010duk, Volha Bromen, Filip Ha\u016dry\u0161a\u016d, Maryja Jafimava, Ja\u016dhien \u017ddanovi\u010d, An\u017ealika Zajcava, Hleb Iva\u0161kievi\u010d, Kaciaryna Malije\u016dskaja, Vital Samsona\u016d, Artur Sia\u0144ko, Siarhiej and Volha \u0160a\u0142yha, Hanna \u0160arko, and Alaksandr Janko\u016dski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are now 373 \u201cextremist groups\u201d on the ministry\u2019s register, which was set up in September 2021 amid a crackdown on Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Association of Belarusians in America describes itself as a nonprofit organization that unites Belarusians across the United States. Its declared mission is to promote knowledge about Belarusian-Americans and the Belarusian-American community, its history, accomplishments, and contributions; represent the Belarusian-American community before the people and Government of the USA; assist the Belarusian community of the United States in preserving its heritage, culture, and language; and support Belarus in its effort to build a strong civil society and effectuate economic, cultural, and social change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
