June 27,\u00a0Pozirk<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong>The UN Security Council\u2019s emergency meeting over last week\u2019s deadly drone attack on a Belarusian tour bus will take place on June 29,\u00a0Russia\u2019s acting permanent representative to the United Nations, Anna Evstigneyeva,\u00a0told TASS<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was called by Columbia, which currently holds the Security Council\u2019s rotating presidency and will begin at 3 p.m. New York Time (10 p.m. Minsk time), she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 26, the Belarusian foreign ministry called for an \u201cimpartial international investigation\u201d into the drone attack after Russia took the initiative to announce that Minsk had requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the incident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news was broken by Evstigneyeva, in the absence of any information on the matter on the foreign ministry\u2019s website or in the Belarusian state media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evstigneyeva described the attack as a \u201cdeliberate strike\u201d by Ukraine on a Belarusian civilian bus carrying children in Russia\u2019s Bryansk province. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement on Friday, the foreign ministry\u2019s spokesman Rus\u0142an Varanko\u016d said that Belarus had appealed to Columbia to call an emergency meeting in connection with the \u201cterrorist attack.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given that Belarus is not a member of the Security Council, the appeal has been supported by its permanent member Russia, Varanko\u016d said, adding that the meeting would take place soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus will demand an \u201cimmediate, objective, and impartial international investigation,\u201d Varanko\u016d said, stressing that \u201csuch crimes must not be hushed up and the perpetrators must not escape accountability.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200bDuring the meeting, Varanko\u016d said, Belarus will also complain to the Security Council about \u201crecent statements by the Ukrainian leadership, which openly declare readiness to launch strikes on the Belarusian territory, including critical infrastructure facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200b\u201dSuch rhetoric not only flagrantly violates the fundamental principles of international law but also poses a direct threat to regional and international security,\u201d the statement said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 17, a Belarusian tour bus carrying 44 passengers, including 28 minors enrolled in a soccer program, was hit by a drone in Russia. Viktoryja Haro\u0161ka, the wife of a coach from the Re\u010dyca sports school for children, was killed in the attack. Six other people, including five children, were wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While warning against drawing premature conclusions, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka blamed the strike on a Ukrainian drone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied involvement, stating that Ukrainian forces did not use unmanned aerial vehicles against targets in Russia\u2019s Bryansk province on the day the bus was hit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
