July 1, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarus-based drone control relay systems that Russia uses to strike Ukraine with its Shahed drones have been disabled, Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, told reporters on July 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His comments came one day after Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces told TSN <\/em>that Belarus turned off relay systems for a few days and then turned on one of four relay stations against on June 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYesterday, Belarus turned on one repeater, but I don\u2019t think they\u2019ll turn any more of them on. . .  [The Belarusian authorities] realize that this shouldn\u2019t be done, so to speak,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demchenko acknowledged that \u201cthere are no unusual situations or attempts by sabotage and reconnaissance groups to enter [Ukraine] from Belarusian territory.\u201d \u201cDespite pressure from Russia, Belarus clearly understands the further risks if hostilities spill over to its border,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, Belarus continues to develop military infrastructure that could be made available for Russian military operations, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave the Belarusian authorities one week to dismantle four drone-control relay systems allegedly used to facilitate Russian attacks on Ukraine. \u201cIf he [\u0141uka\u0161enka] does not shut them down, we will shut down everything within a week. Either they will do it, or we will,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 24, Zelensky said that the relay systems had suspended operations. He followed up with more demands, saying that Belarus should stop developing an \u201caggressive infrastructure\u201d of roads and storage facilities for ammunition, fuel and lubricants near the Ukrainian border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
