July 6, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>A hybrid war against Belarus is ongoing, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has said at a ceremony in Minsk honoring the graduates of higher military educational institutions and senior officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Economic pressure is compounded by political and informational pressure, as well as by active espionage and provocations on our southern borders,” his press office quoted him as saying. \u0141uka\u0161enka also assured the officers that no one would \u201csend them into this bloodbath,\u201d referring to Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine. Belarus does not need a war, and \u201cit is bad that there is a war in Ukraine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler\u2019s remarks came shortly after Ukraine had taken a tougher stance toward Minsk. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly demanded that the Belarusian authorities immediately cease all support for Russia. \u0141uka\u0161enka is seeking to reinforce his positions following Kyiv\u2019s warnings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, he accused the international community of prolonging the war in Ukraine without mentioning that it was Russia that launched it, while Ukraine is defending itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Certain Western politicians are simply annoyed by our autonomy and independence, as well as by our alliance with Russia and our commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine,” the politician said. He also accused the European Union of hypocrisy, saying that while it claims to support peace, it has “openly embarked on a course of militarization,” which he equated with NATO. Billions are being spent on offensive weapons with “absurd hysteria” over an imaginary “threat from the east,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
