July 6, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja met with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly\u2019s Secretary General Roberto Montella and President Pere Joan Pons as well as members of the Ukrainian parliament within the framework of the organization\u2019s ongoing session in The Hague.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s aide Franak Via\u010dorka told Pozirk<\/em>, she welcomed the formation of a group called For Democratic Belarus within the Parliamentary Assembly and thanked its president and national delegations for allowing the Belarusian \u201cshadow delegation\u201d to take part in its activities. She noted the importance of ensuring that “the voice of Belarusian society, rather than the regime, is represented in the OSCE.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting with members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, participants “exchanged views on the security situation, Belarusian-Ukrainian cooperation projects, plans for cooperation within the OSCE, as well as the joint advancement of Belarusian and Ukrainian interests,” Via\u010dorka said. Cichano\u016dskaja urged the Ukrainian delegation to support a resolution on Belarus expected to be debated during this session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separately, they discussed prospects for launching a Belarusian-Ukrainian project within the Ukrainian broadcasting system to cover bilateral relations in the two languages and give voice to the Belarusian community in Ukraine, Via\u010dorka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s expressed gratitude to Ukrainian authorities for a significant progress on problems facing Belarusian volunteer fighters in Ukraine, including legalization issues, and discussed the possibility of granting residence permits to citizens of Belarus without valid passports, Via\u010dorka said. Ukrainian lawmakers were among those who signed a declaration on the formation of For Democratic Belarus, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja is attending the 33rd annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly that began in The Hague on July 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
