July 7, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Today’s meeting of the Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) has approved a draft resolution on Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bj\u00f6rn S\u00f6der, head of the Swedish delegation to the OSCE PA, sponsored the document, urging the OSCE PA to devote more attention to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The international community had for years mistakenly legitimized representatives of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime instead of consistently supporting the Belarusian people and pro-democracy forces, he said. This allowed the regime to consolidate power, deepen its dependence on the Kremlin and turn Belarus into a tool of war and pressure against Europe, S\u00f6der stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resolving the Belarusian crisis requires more than negotiations with \u0141uka\u0161enka or temporary de-escalation, the politician added, calling for an end to repression, the release of all jailed dissidents, free and fair elections, restoration of the rule of law and accountability for those responsible for crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vote on the resolution is scheduled during a plenary session on July 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 33rd annual session of the OSCE PA is taking place in The Hague between July 4 and July 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
