July 13, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade may reintroduce price controls on certain goods in case of \u201csharp spikes\u201d in prices, Deputy Minister Aleh Dzikun has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We see that the directive on price regulation has served its purpose by helping ensure price stability in the market,” the state-run media outlets quoted him as saying. “We are seeing deflation across many non-food goods, and we are confident this trend will continue.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry will keep monitoring prices on a weekly basis through both official statistical data and on-site inspections, the official added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Businesses will be allowed to raise retail prices by 0.3 percent to account for accumulated or deferred increases since the beginning of the year, Dzikun said, noting that this temporary restriction had not previously been in effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, the government announced changes to the existing price controls, reducing the list of goods subject to price regulations from 199 to 76 items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus saw a 0.3-percent rise in consumer prices in June, with a 2.9-percent increase since January and a 4.3-percent rise year on year, according to the official data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
