July 16, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d is on a three-day official visit to Mozambique for high-level talks with government officials and business leaders, the foreign ministry\u2019s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, he met with Jo\u00e3o Machatine, Mozambique\u2019s executive coordinator of the Office for Reforms and Strategic Projects, and proposed study programs in Belarus for Mozambicans. Ry\u017eanko\u016d mentioned agriculture, healthcare and information technology, as well as training defense and security personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus views Mozambique as a “strategic foothold” in southeastern Africa and is ready to expand bilateral ties, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka said in a congratulatory message to Mozambique\u2019s President Daniel Francisco Chapo on the country\u2019s Independence Day last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Mozambique\u2019s military attach\u00e9 became his country\u2019s first military diplomat accredited to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February, \u0141uka\u0161enka discussed the potential joint construction of a port in Mozambique with Mabel Memory Chinomona, president of Zimbabwe\u2019s Senate, again citing the need for \u201ca foothold on the southeastern coast of the African continent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf we pursue this project together with Mozambique and Zimbabwe… your country could become a major hub in southern Africa for goods, not only from Belarus but from other countries as well. I think first of all of Russia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
