July 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus\u2019 gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.5 percent in the first half of the year after contracting in the first quarter, the National Statistics Committee (Bie\u0142stat) reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GDP shrank by 1.2 percent in January, remained down 1.2 percent in the first two months and was 0.4 percent lower in the first quarter. It then grew by 0.2 percent in the first four months and by 0.9 percent in January-May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Belarus\u2019 economy grew by 1.3 percent, well below the government’s target of 4.1 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the government’s Social and Economic Development Forecast for 2026, GDP is expected to grow by 2.8 percent this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Monetary Fund forecasts Belarus\u2019 economy to grow by 1.4 percent in 2026, while the Eurasian Development Bank projects growth of 1.8 percent. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development recently lowered its 2026 growth forecast for Belarus to 1.3 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
