July 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Third-country migrants have been trying to enter Lithuania from Belarus outside official checkpoints for five days in a row, and Latvia for 116 days in a row, according to reports from border services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian border guards reported two irregular entries per day from July 14 to 17 and as many as 20 incidents on July 20. That was a 54-day record high since May 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania reported 60 attempts this month and 932 this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia registered as many as 8,304 irregular entries this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish border guards have not seen any undocumented migrants from Belarus from July 14 to 17, but reported 51 incidents in July and 280 since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
