July 24, Pozirk. Belarus\u2019 foreign ministry has identified the Belarusian allegedly plotting a \u201cterrorist attack\u201d in Poland as an \u201cadherent of pseudo-Christian values\u201d who was targeting the underage children of a Belarusian woman leading an \u201cextremist organization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a message on the ministry\u2019s website, spokesman Rus\u0142an Varanko\u016d says that Poland is paying \u201cdue attention\u201d to Minsk\u2019s warning about the imminent \u201cattack\u201d and will undoubtedly \u201ctake exhaustive measures to prevent a tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Varanko\u016d stresses that cooperation in the fight against terrorism should be \u201ccompletely free from politics\u201d and claims that Minsk acts in the spirit of \u201cgood neighborliness\u201d despite \u201cdifferences of opinion\u201d with Warsaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Varanko\u016d says that \u201cfugitive\u201d groups would put the blame on Belarusian authorities if the planned attack took place and describes the \u201cradicalization\u201d of exiled Belarusians as a \u201ctrend\u201d that is becoming a security threat for the Polish people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Varanko\u016d emphasises the \u201cutmost gravity of the situation,\u201d alleging that the would-be attacker has \u201cmotives and connections\u201d and a track record of \u201cradical acts\u201d as a resident of Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAccording to available data, the woman whose minor children were to become the main target of the planned crime leads one of the organizations designated as extremist in Belarus,\u201d Varanko\u016d says. \u201cThis fact clearly illustrates the deep crisis and unhealthy competition within the community of so-called political emigration artificially supported by Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Varanko\u016d goes on to describe the alleged plot as \u201ca predictable reaction\u201d to the abuses of groups advancing a \u201cpopulist\u201d agenda and seeking to \u201cenrich themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the foreign ministry left all the individuals in its account anonymous, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja, a mother of two who chairs the United Transitional Cabinet, seems a perfect fit for the ministry\u2019s description of the \u201cvictim.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foreign ministry reported on Thursday evening that Belarus had informed Poland about preparations for a terrorist attack on the underage children of a \u201cfemale activist residing in Poland who holds Belarusian citizenship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information obtained \u201cthrough Belarusian law-enforcement channels regarding the preparation of a terrorist act\u201d in Poland was passed to Poland\u2019s Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires Krzysztof O\u017canna in accordance with agreements on cooperation in combating crime, the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person plotting the attack is a resident of Poland who was convicted in Belarus under several articles of the Criminal Code and who has recently been deprived by the Polish authorities of additional protection and the right to reside in the country, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The individual in question allegedly wanted was to take revenge on the woman for \u201cinsufficient efforts to preserve the above-mentioned status for the said person in Poland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Krzysztof O\u017canna was reportedly told that \u201cadditional information on this matter, if necessary and as it becomes available, will be transmitted through the channels of interaction between the competent authorities of the two countries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 24, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that Warsaw \u201ctakes every terrorism warning seriously.\u201d Rmf24.pl quoted Sikorski as saying that Polish authorities are checking the information from Minsk.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
