July 29, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian investigators have charged D\u017amitryj Hlejzier, an exiled former executive who fled what he called politically motivated persecution in Belarus, with fraud and bribery and summoned him to the Brest regional office of the Investigative Committee, the agency said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, Hlejzier had served as deputy head of the Baranavi\u010dy Machine-Tool Plant, part of the At\u0142ant refrigeration equipment manufacturer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 2022, Slovenian authorities arrested him at the request of Belarusian prosecutors via an Interpol red notice, although he was officially residing in Spain, rights defenders from Pravavaja Inicyjatyva reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Slovenian court found the case to be politically motivated and determined that the available evidence was insufficiently substantiated by Belarusian prosecutors. Hlejzier\u2019s extradition to Belarus was deemed to pose \u201ca risk that his rights would be violated,\u201d rights defenders said. Belarus\u2019 extradition request was denied, Hlejzier was released, and Slovenia\u2019s Supreme Court ruled that his two-month detention had been unlawful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
