August 7, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Everything possible should be done to ensure that the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime\u2019s crimes do not go unpunished, Belarusian pro-democracy leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja said in Warsaw on August 7 during a side event ahead of the New Belarus Conference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja called on Western countries to support Lithuania\u2019s bid to bring \u0141uka\u0161enka to justice through the International Criminal Court, and to back Ukraine\u2019s investigation into the deportation of children from its territory, including to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja also called for a special tribunal to punish the regime for its support for Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine. \u201cWithout justice, no change would be sustainable,\u201d she warned. \u201cWe would go round and round in a vicious circle, and crimes will be repeated.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja stressed that Belarus\u2019 pro-democracy forces had consistently condemned Russia\u2019s aggression against Ukraine, collected evidence of the regime’s involvement and proved that it runs counter to the will of the Belarusian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Through their resistance, Belarusians have shown that they stand on the side of Ukraine,\u201d she said. \u201cOur recent visit to Ukraine confirmed that Ukraine clearly distinguishes the Belarusian people from the illegitimate regime and is ready to support our initiatives to bring \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime to justice.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s New Belarus Conference will be held in Warsaw on August 8 and 9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fourth New Belarus Conference took place in Warsaw on August 9 and 10, 2025. Its delegates joined a March of Freedom to mark the fifth anniversary of the 2020 election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the first New Belarus Conference, held in Vilnius in 2022, Cichano\u016dskaja announced the establishment of the United Transitional Cabinet and appointed its leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the second conference in Warsaw in 2023, Cichano\u016dskaja made certain changes to the composition of the cabinet and declared Belarus\u2019 accession to the European Union as the aspiration of the pro-democracy forces.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the third conference in Vilnius in 2024, the opposition camp\u2019s joint action strategy for that year was adopted, among other things.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
