August 7, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus\u2019 top military-political leadership will be brought to account for complicity in Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine, Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, deputy head of the United Transitional Cabinet, said in Warsaw on August 7 ahead of the New Belarus Conference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to \u0141atu\u0161ka, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka admitted his initiating role in the deployment of Russia\u2019s invasion force in Belarus under the guise of a military exercise and directly violated Belarus\u2019 commitments under the OSCE Vienna Mechanism for Risk Reduction by concealing the scale of Russian military presence in the Belarusian territory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s speech on the day of the full-scale invasion shows that he had known about Russia\u2019spreparations to use force against Ukraine, \u0141atu\u0161ka said. According to him, \u0141uka\u0161enka admitted in remarks onMarch 15, 2022, that Belarus did not just passively host Russian troops, but actively fulfilled specific assignments to shield the Russian offensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka emphasized that these actions led to thousands of deaths in Ukraine and the destruction of civilian infrastructure, with the Bucha massacre resulting from Russia\u2019s invasion from the Belarusian territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka played up the importance of an opposition-drafted amendment to the June 2025 agreement on the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression Against Ukraine, which extended its jurisdiction to Belarus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities sided with the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions, supplying weapons to Moscow and providing other kinds of assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
