August 9, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusians clearly demonstrated their will for democratic change and their right to determine their country’s future in 2020, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said on the sixth anniversary of Belarus’ presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTheir choice was met with repression. Yet years of pressure, imprisonment and forced exile have not erased the desire of Belarusians for freedom, democracy, and sovereignty,\u201d he noted on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine distinguishes between the Belarusian people and Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime, which bears responsibility for assisting Russia\u2019s war of aggression against Ukraine, the diplomat stressed. \u201cWe appreciate the many Belarusians who have stood with Ukraine and opposed Russian aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus would eventually become a free, independent, democratic and European country, with its people determining its future rather than Moscow, he said, adding that a democratic Belarus would strengthen security across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine will continue to cooperate with Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja\u00a0and Belarusians seeking to build a free and European Belarus, Sybiha noted. \u201cA free Belarus belongs in a free Europe,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
