August 16, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>As of late June, 12,499 Belarusian nationals were officially employed in Germany and were paying social security contributions, according to the German government\u2019s response to a parliamentary inquiry by the opposition Left Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 2,618 of employed Belarusians in Germany, or nearly 21 percent, worked in occupations facing labor shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MPs cited the decline in Germany\u2019s working-age population as the reason for their inquiry. They said foreign workers have become essential to filling labor shortages and supporting key sectors, including healthcare, nursing, retail, logistics and food services, particularly in eastern Germany, where demographic changes are more pronounced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compared with 2015, the share of employed foreigners in Germany rose from 9.2 percent to 16.7 percent, reaching 5.84 million people. In high-demand occupations, their share increased from 7.6 percent to 14.6 percent, totaling 1.29 million workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians accounted for 0.21 percent of all officially employed foreign workers and 0.2 percent in high-demand jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
