September 1, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarusian defense ministry has launched a 25-day exercise for reservists assigned to territorial troops in the Zavodzki district of Minsk, Homiel, as well as in the \u015avietlahorsk and Akciabrski districts in the Homiel region, the ministry\u2019s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news comes after the announcement of a similar exercise in two districts of the Minsk region and one district in the Hrodna region on August 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drills aim to strengthen local authorities\u2019 ability to form territorial defense units and train conscripts to carry out their assigned tasks, the ministry noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the final stage, Homiel\u2019s territorial troops will take part in a command-and-staff exercise, while reservists from Minsk will participate in a tactical exercise, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Territorial defense troops, an auxiliary part of the Armed Forces, are formed in times of war or military-political tension of reservists with military training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three years ago, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin announced that territorial defense \u201cis being transformed from a support system into a full-fledged combat one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army has been conducting exercises non-stop amid tensions with the West and Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
